Dear Students,
This year, I have the honor of being your 6th grade, math teacher. Growing up, math was never a subject that I truly enjoyed. In fact, I struggled with math every year while in school. It wasn’t until I actually started practicing in this profession, that my passion for teaching mathematics came about. I remember exactly what I never understood, and how frustrated I felt when my math teachers couldn’t help me. It was like they spoke one language, and I another. Ughhh! I promise that, that won’t be the case in my class. I have made it my mission to change every non-math lover’s mind, and promise that if you don’t completely fall in love with mathematics by the end of this year, you’ll at least like it a little more.
So, a little more about me; I graduated from Miami Springs Senior High School in 2004 (See? you’re calculating my age, proving that your love for math is increasing already), and I graduated from Florida International University in 2011 with a degree in Elementary Education. No, I never took a break, or stop going to school after H.S graduation, but like a lot of kids, I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. I always wanted to be a teacher; got a chalkboard for Christmas every year, but my parents (especially my dad) discouraged the idea. (That doesn’t even make sense based on the fact that, I got a brand new chalkboard every Christmas till 6th grade!) Anyway, I floated for about 3 years exploring different degrees, but nothing felt right until I went full force on the teaching thing, and the rest is history.
In May 2015, I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida International University.
Aside from academics I am a full-time aunt to three wonderful children, who I love more than anything. My sister passed away in 2013, so my family and I have stepped up to the plate, and have made sure that they have everything that they need. Jesselynn, Joeseth, and Joevanne are proud Milam students (you’ll see them around) and I enjoy every minute with all three of my babies.
I am a big goof ball, and I wear my heart on my sleeve; what you see is really what you get. Should you need anything, and I mean anything, don’t hesitate to stop by room for a little heart-to-heart. With that being said, I love you but I expect you to work hard all year, and turn in your work. I work very hard to prepare lessons for your benefit, so you need to work hard to complete assignments for YOUR benefit. There will be times where it won't be easy, but I promise it will be worth it!
I have no doubt that if you work with me, this will be a successful year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Borges
